CAUCUS FOR BETTY!
As the saying goes, “all politics is local.” By participating in your DFL precinct caucus on Tuesday, February 3rd, YOU can help decide the Minnesota DFL Party’s candidates for federal, state, and local elected offices, including Betty, as well as the issues and positions included in the state party platform. A precinct caucus is a gathering of fellow DFLers near you where you’ll determine party leadership and representation at your local precinct level.
To be eligible to caucus and become a DFL delegate you must:
Live in Minnesota.
Be 18 by November 3rd.
Consider yourself a member of the DFL Party.
Not consider yourself an active member of any other political party.
DFL PRECINCT CAUCUSES
Tuesday, February 3rd
Registration: 6:30 PM | Caucus: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Employers are required by Minnesota law to provide time off to employees to attend precinct caucuses if they’ve been provided with written notice 10 days or more in advance.
After attending your precinct caucus and becoming a delegate, local DFLers in your area will organize a convention between Friday, February 13th and Sunday, April 12th to vote to endorse candidates for state representative, state senator, and to choose delegates to move onto the next levels of conventions, the congressional & state conventions. Delegates selected to the 4th Congressional District DFL Convention on Sunday, May 3rd, will have the chance to vote to give Betty the DFL’s endorsement for Congress.
Delegates elected to the congressional district convention will also be either delegates or alternates to the state convention at the end of May.
AFTER CAUCUSING
CAN’T ATTEND YOUR PRECINCT CAUCUS?
You can complete an absentee form and on it, indicate your willingness to become an organizing unit delegate & alternate (in the event delegate spots are full) in section 4, and your support for Betty McCollum for Congress in section 5. Completed forms must be turned into your local DFL Chair no earlier than Thursday, January 1st and no later than Saturday, January 31st. Completed forms can also be mailed or emailed to Betty’s campaign for us to turn in on your behalf.
